MaryJane Butters thinks so. Wild Bread completely reinvents the concept of healthier-for-you, naturally fermented sourdough.

Until now, sourdough was perceived as too much work and sour-tasting, artisan-style-only loaves. In Wild Bread, her quick and easy 1 minute 2x/day technique demonstrates the use of eight different types of flours for each bread featured—everything from gluten-free brown-rice flour to quinoa to common white to heirloom whole wheat—for a whopping 295 recipes and 475 photographs.

Using her step-by-step method, every style of bread imaginable, including gluten-free, will loft with wild abandon without the purchase of a single packet of not-so-healthy, store-bought yeast. In nutritionally superior wild-yeast bread, fermentation triggers the release of vital nutrients and breaks down carbohydrates. In MaryJane’s world, there’s no such thing as too much bread because once you convert to slow-rise wild-bread making, that bagel you’ve been thinking about is more like a vitamin pill than a source of “carb-loaded” guilt.

Lessons gleaned from MaryJane Butters’ diverse pioneering background, from carpenter to dairy owner to former wilderness ranger turned organic farmer, led her eventually to stewardship of the 4-story, historic Barron Flour Mill. It was only natural that her years spent living on remote Forest Service fire-watch towers with only a living, breathing sourdough “mother” for companionship would lead her to write a pioneering wild-yeast bread book. She is the author of eight books; editor of MaryJanesFarm magazine, now in its 18th year of publication; and lives on an organic farm in Idaho. Two of her grown children and their spouses are employed full-time at her farm and she is “Nanny” to half a dozen grandchildren.

Special Orders 

To allow our store to offer the most options as possible we partner with some of our key vendors to allow for Special Orders. Special Orders consist of merchandise that we do not stock or is currently back ordered with the vendor and Special Orders either ship directly from the vendor or they're shipped to us upon purchase and we ship directly to the customer. 

Any items purchased from specific brands (listed below) OR have a special order variant are considered FINAL SALE and cannot be cancelled or exchanged for any reason per vendor policies.

Because of this process, ALL special orders take additional time to ship. If your order contains BOTH in-stock and special order variants your order will ship complete unless additional shipping is paid to split the order and ship separately.

How do I tell if it's a special order?

Most of the brands above will have 2-3 variant options. Single means IN-STOCK at our store and ready to ship. Anything sold in sets or via Special Order variant means it will need to be ordered from the vendor.

Shipping & Exchanges

Orders are processed within 3-5 business days, Tuesday-Friday. Please note during our busy season, October-December and during any special sale events orders will take additional time to process. Processing means prepare for shipment & does NOT include the actual time of shipping transit.

Once items are prepared/processed for shipment, standard shipping in the continental US takes 2-7 business days in transit. Most items are shipped from Atlanta, Georgia.

In-store pick up is also available. Choose in-store pick up option  at checkout and you'll receive an email once your oder is ready for pick up.  

We do thoroughly inspect all shipments before sending them off, but damages can sometimes occur. We ask that you inspect your pieces immediately upon receipt and notify us of any damage asap so we can take the appropriate measure to rectify the situation. Please also take pictures of the box and any damages that may have occurred. Damages must be reported within 10 days of receipt be eligible for refund or replacement.
