In Bloom: Prepping for Peonies
April showers bring May flowers! You know what that means? Peony season is coming! Peonies have easily become the world’s flower of choice. Harvested in a variety of soft hues & beloved for their lush, plentiful blooms, beautiful fragrance, and livelihood, peonies bring instant joy and life to any room. Make the most of their short season by creating a stunning centerpiece — full of peonies, of course — worth throwing a party for!
While the thought of creating a floral arrangement can be daunting, it does not have to be hard. Remembering these three easy tips will keep your mind at ease:
Keep it simple and in season. If you’re not someone who arranges flowers frequently, it is best to keep it simple with a few stems of a single varietal. My favorites include peonies, hydrangeas, lilacs, ranunculus, and tulips.
Prep first. Immediately remove any plastic wrapping, submerge the stems in water, and begin cleaning by removing any unneeded leaves and twigs.
If you want an additional pop or some variety, add a few sprigs of eucalyptus or craspedia, but just remember in most cases less is more.
Where there is fresh flowers, there must be beautiful vases. Elevate your arrangement in a beautiful mouth blown vase from VIETRI or Juliska. Timeless in design & pretty enough to be displayed on a coffee table or shelf, but easy enough to pull out any time you have fresh blooms.
We have made creating the perfect arrangement even easier by stocking our store with the most stunning vases. Shop these bestsellers from VIETRI including the Hibiscus Glass Bud Vase & the Medium Onda Glass Striped Vase and from Juliska including the Amalia Round Vase & the Amalia 6" Pink. And be the first to shop new styles from Juliska including the Graham 5" Vase, the Graham Corset Vase, & the Graham Posey Vase.
Not to mention, a bouquet of seasonal flowers makes the perfect congratulatory, hostess, and housewarming gift! The easiest way to gift florals is by wrapping them in beautiful paper. To wrap, trim the stems (preferably on a diagonal with pruning shears), grab wrapping sheets or butcher paper, lay the flowers down nicely at the corner of your sheet, and tie with ribbon.
"Fresh flowers are one of life’s many little luxuries and it is not one I am willing to forego. Nothing is better than walking in my home and smelling the sweet aroma of a fresh bouquet on the kitchen counter, even a simple bouquet from Trader Joe's or Whole Foods." - MKR
